The leader in sales of new cars in Bulgaria for the first six months (and for a large part of the past decade) – Dacia, surprisingly retreated.
From the reference of Automedia.bg for registered new cars in July, it is clear that the Romanian manufacturer has remained in fifth place in our country with a total of 2017 cars since the beginning of the year. This is an increase of almost 13% compared to the same period in 2022, and the Jogger model even registered a jump of 77%, but even this was not enough and the company’s market share fell to 8.4%. The main reason for the retreat is considered to be the transfer of the most sought-after car – Dokker, to the range of the parent company Renault (now under the name Express).
Otherwise Dacia is present with three representatives among the 10 best-selling models in our country – Sandero (749 cars, #3), Duster (463, #8) and Jogger (424, #9).
For the past month, a total of 3,869 new cars were registered at the traffic police, which is 650 more than in July of this year, but also 425 cars less than in June of this year. Back then (in June) Dacia had the #1 selling model – the Sandero (727), and it has now also registered growth – 22 more cars sold. But for now, that’s enough for the Sandero to be in third place.
It has been replaced by two other models, which also share the first position with 804 registered new cars each – Toyota Corolla and Skoda Octavia (including 33 RS and 4 Scout).
It seems that Toyota consolidates its leadership position as the most sought-after car brand. A total of 2,791 new cars of the Japanese company have been registered by the traffic police since January, with which Toyota has a growth of 9% and holds an 11.7% market share. There are only two of this manufacturer in the Top 10 by sold models – the leader Toyota Corolla, where there is an increase of 96 cars sold compared to June, and the Toyota CH-R, which retains the fourth position from last month already with 613 newly registered cars (with 72 new cars in July).
Skoda Octavia is also the model with the largest growth on an annual basis – 216%, and it is the only representative of the Czech company in the Top 10 in terms of new models placed in our country. In general, though Skoda marks a remarkable growth of 57% compared to 2022 and so far in 2023 it can boast of 2,231 registered new cars, making it #2 in our country. This continues to be due to the fulfillment of the orders accumulated for nearly 2 years.
The third position for new cars since the beginning of the year is held by Volkswagen – 2150 (market share of 9% and growth of 47% compared to 2022). The German company does not have a representative in the Top 10 by model, but the overall growth is due to the relatively homogeneous distribution of demand by different models. Still, the T-Roc (376 new registrations/90 in July) and the Taigo (total 285/59 in July) are the most in demand.
Dacia is displaced in the Top 5 and from Renault (#4 with 2,071 new cars registered this year). This is a growth of only 4% for the French company and a market share of 8.6%. The bestseller Clio is in sixth place in the Top 10 models in our country with 491 sold since the beginning of the year (60 for July). The progress of the Express (the successor of the Dacia Dokker, as mentioned) is striking, closing the Top 10 of the most sought-after models in our country with 405 cars since the beginning of the year/66 for July), which is an increase of almost 93% compared to m.y.
There are more in the top ten best-selling models in Bulgaria Citroen C3 (#5) with 498 cars since January/117 for July alone, as well the crossover Kia Sportage (#7) with 464/111.
