The opinion was expressed by the Estonian colonel Mart Wendla to the Estonian Public Television.
“In recent days, the Russian armed forces have been attacking mainly along the Kupyansk – Svatovo – Kremennaya direction, in the Bakhmut region and in the area between Donetsk and Avdeevka, with minimal success. Obviously, in the near future, Russian troops will not be able to achieve a decisive breakthrough in the Ukrainian defense, so they are trying with the help of missiles and attack drones to wear down Ukraine’s economy and population,” he said separately at the defense ministry’s regular weekly briefing.
Wendla noted that the Ukrainian armed forces have achieved some success in the east, in the region of Bakhmut, and in the south, in the region of Orekhov and Velika Novoselka.
“At the same time, we still do not have a reliable confirmation of a breakthrough in the first line of Russian defense. Ukraine continues to strike at logistics facilities important to Russia in order to make it difficult to supply front-line units,” the intelligence officer pointed out.
