After joining Aston Martin, Fernando Alonso became the recognized leader of the team. In the first half of the season, the Spanish rider earned 149 points, while his partner Lance Stroll has three times less – 47.
Fernando Alonso, who recently turned 42, admits he doesn’t have much time left in F1 and wants to prepare his younger teammate for a leadership role.
Fernando Alonso «I know what my role is – to help the team grow in all areas, and also try to help Lance.
I’ll be performing for a few more years, but I don’t know how long – definitely not for very long. Lance has many more years of racing ahead of him and will be a team leader in the future. And I’m happy to help him with this.
Lance and I have a good relationship – there’s no secret about it. If we had fought for the title, then, probably, we would have communicated less, and there would have been more tension in the team between the riders. But now we have clear goals, and we are working together to achieve them.”
