Allegations of Misconduct against Zambia Women’s Soccer Coach Bruce Mwape During World Cup

Zambia women’s soccer coach Bruce Mwape is facing allegations that he rubbed his hands on the breasts of one of his players during the ongoing World Cup. The Guardian newspaper came up with the information. The International Football Federation (FIFA) is also dealing with the case.

“We can confirm that we have received a complaint in relation to the Zambia Women’s National Team and that an investigation is currently underway. We cannot provide further details regarding the ongoing investigation for obvious reasons of confidentiality,” FIFA said.

According to the Guardian, the incident took place after a training session ahead of Zambia’s final Group C match against Costa Rica. In it, the African team won, but due to previous defeats against Spain and Japan, it ended in the championship, which is hosted by Australia and New Zealand.

The Football Association of Zambia (FAZ) said it had not received any complaints from the players or other team officials. The accusation of Mwape’s inappropriate behavior surprised him.

Allegations of sexual abuse in women’s football in Zambia also appeared on social media last year and are the subject of an investigation by the FAZ. The Guardian reported that Mwape was among those investigated. The 63-year-old coach took charge of the national team in May 2018 and led it to its first-ever promotion to the World Cup.
