Driver of Stolen Car Allegedly Hits Dozen People in Manhattan Police Chase

While trying to flee from police, a driver of a stolen car allegedly hit a dozen people in the Manhattan borough of New York on Tuesday night.

The event allegedly started when authorities from the New York City Police Department (NYPD) began tracking the offender, who had just seized the vehicle during rush hour, according to information from CBS News.

Panicked, the suspect is said to have quickly accelerated near Lexington Avenue and 42nd Street before hitting two taxis and a few pedestrians, including a 6-year-old child.

A little further on, he would then have hit a cyclist, then two taxis and other pedestrians in the process.

“He stepped on the accelerator and passed a [autobus], explained a witness, Carlos Cabrera, to CBS News. He then hit the yellow taxi, then climbed onto the sidewalk before hitting people on the street.

In all, ten people, aged 6 to 72, were injured, according to the police. Fortunately, their lives are all out of danger.

Authorities eventually arrested the suspect, a 20-year-old man who had not yet been identified at the time of this writing. However, he did not have a valid driver’s license for New York State.
