Nicko McBrain, the drummer of the British metal band Iron Maiden, had a TIA at the beginning of this year. The musician was partially paralyzed for a while.
The 71-year-old drummer says his stroke in January left him paralyzed from his right shoulder down. This happened just a few months before the band was due to rehearse for their tour.
McBrain feared the end of his career, but with the help and support of his wife and doctors, the drummer is recovering and says he is now “functioning at about 70 percent”.
In May, McBrain started rehearsals for the tour again. Two months later he played in Amsterdam’s Ziggo Dome, among other places. He now says that his health problems are the reason he has not been able to perform at his full potential on stage.
“I think it’s important to let you know this only now, because before I was mainly busy with my work and focused on getting back to 100 percent fit,” McBrain says on social media. “I’m not there yet, but by the grace of God I’m getting better and stronger by the week.”
