Český Krumlov is located about twenty kilometers from České Budějovice. It lies under the crest of the Blanský Forest and the popular Vltava River flows through it. Among the Czechs, there are few who would not visit the picturesque town with thirteen thousand inhabitants.
PrahaIN.cz also went here last week. The reason was to verify one e-mail from a reader. He became indignant about the price of food at the local Hotel Dvořák. “I have no words, the most expensive goulash in the Czech Republic, it cost 480 crowns!” he said.
PrahaIN.cz contacted him, he stood by his statement. “I have never seen a more expensive goulash,” replied Jaromír S. from Neratovice.
Our editors wrote about the city some time ago, specifically in May.
“We were in one restaurant where we had to take a picture of it because we had never experienced it before. We are pensioners and in short, we control the prices well. In this establishment, the soup costs 69 crowns. Since we really wanted it, we had two. However, when paying, they wanted about 300 crowns from us. For two soups!” added Jana Dlouhá.
If you were to look carefully at the menu, you would find that the soup costs 69 crowns only if you also order the main course. The soup separately costs 149 crowns. We tried to find out if it was not targeted deception of customers. “Goodbye,” was the response when we announced the reason for our call.

At first glance, even the editorial staff of PrahaIN.cz did not notice it. Coincidentally, we were also in Český Krumlov a few weeks ago. The walk was…
They say people are only interested in price
The aforementioned article caused considerable displeasure from several representatives of the city. They claimed that we were flat-lining and that it unfairly cast a bad light on the city.
This time we went to Český Krumlov in person.
We found the mentioned Hotel Dvořák quickly. It is located in a beautiful place and really invites you to sit. However, the prices in the restaurant are high. Pork steak with sauce costs 390 crowns, fried pork steak 380 crowns, rumpsteak with herb butter was on the menu for 590 crowns, variations of Czech cheeses for 340 crowns, salmon on fresh herbs for 540 crowns and trout baked on the grill with sautéed vegetables for 440 crowns .

We also found a minute goulash. It is made of flower tip and really costs 480 crowns.
The flesh of the flower tip is completely lean, with typically fine veins of fat and a distinct flavor. It is popularly used for grilling.
This is also the reason for the higher amount, hotel director Petr Gužík explained to our editors.
“Unfortunately, your reader forgot to tell you that this is a one-minute goulash made from flower tips, which is exactly what is listed on our hotel’s menu. The price is appropriate for the quality, the price of the meat and the preparation of the dish. Your reader should certainly have told other important facts. As is the custom with many guests and readers, they are only interested in the right side of the menu.”
The editors obtained one more photo from the Dvořák Hotel & Restaurant. It comes from Wednesday 26th July (5pm). The garden was practically empty. Photo: PrahaIN.cz
