The defeat in Landsberg is over, looking ahead: although the chances of the championship for the TSV Neu-Ulm Spartans are only minimal (the Landsberg X-PRESS would have to fail on Sunday in Amberg), but: The team is still highly motivated.
The Spartans want to end the “fantastic first season in the 3rd division” (head coach Daniel Koch) in American football as positively as possible
The way to do this: two home games in a row, which you have to win with the largest possible crowd in the stands. Before the Amberg Mad Bulldogs show up in Neu-Ulm on August 12th, the fellow promoted team from Rothenburg ob der Tauber, Franken Knights, will be coming to the Dietrich Lang Sports Center this Saturday (5th August, kickoff at 4 p.m.). From the point of view of the Spartans, there is still a gap to be worked out – after all, the Knights were the only team in the 2022 season that was able to beat Neu-Ulmer in the Bayernliga – and that too in front of a great crowd at Muthenholzle (with 21 :14 Rothenburger won the final for the championship in the Bayernliga).
„But that’s just one reason and by no means the only reason for us Spartans to step on the gas again,” the Spartans-HC Koch puts it on record: “We want to end this first season in the regional league, which has been so extremely enjoyable for us, in the best possible way. As a promoted team, we’re playing great football this year. And second place would also be a result that nobody predicted. We always want to improve from game to game. That’s the attitude in the team; and we want to make it easy for our fans too. In addition, six newcomers have been added for the last three games, who had a perfect season with the Spartans U19 team this year, i.e. won all games and won the championship. There’s a lot of talent there; and these guys are dying for game time too.”
All former Spartans players from the first ten years are particularly cordially invited to this penultimate home game, which will also be well organized from the outside. For “Veterans Day” they have free entry on Saturday and are in the half-time, which ensured this still quite short but overall – one can probably say – impressive club history after the merger of Ulm Sparrows and Neu-Ulm Barracudas of the game invited to interviews.
