When Beirut Returns: Majida Al-Roumi’s Powerful Tribute Song to the Port Explosion

The new song by the Lebanese singer Majida Al-Roumi, “When Beirut Returns”, the words of Nizar Qabbani, which she released on her official channel on the eve of the third anniversary of the Beirut port explosion, received wide praise, especially as it came “17 years after the production of her latest work,” according to the agency. Many art stars and users of various social networks were keen to congratulate Al-Roumi on this song, which she opened with a message to the families of the martyrs of the “Beirut Port Explosion” incident, which took place on August 4, 2020, and claimed the lives of more than 220 people and hundreds of wounded.

Magda El Roumi wrote at the beginning of the clip: “I dedicate this work to the families of the martyrs of the port and all the families of the righteous martyrs of Lebanon. And I dedicate it to the Lebanese who obeyed the impossible and endured the successive criminal conspiracies woven against them, horrors that no people in the world could bear, in the hope that we will soon recover our free national decision that was confiscated from us, and that Beirut will return to us safely, today before tomorrow, with God’s permission.

The Lebanese star, Maya Diab, praised the song, which she described as “a great, integrated and influential national work,” noting, in a tweet she posted on her account on the “Twitter” website X, to the difficult circumstances that Al-Roumi went through while preparing this song until she saw the light “on a date.” Tough on all of us.”

And she added, “Congratulations for this great, integrated and influential national work, “When Beirut Returns,” it is an ode to your voice that resembles Lebanon in its beauty and solidity. Oh Lord, return to Beirut and go astray. You are the beacon of Lebanon with all the world and the icon that we see our situation in.. I love you # Magda_Al-Roumi.

It took the preparation of this work “When Beirut Returns”, which was filmed with very high technologies between Lebanon and Egypt, especially at the headquarters of the League of Arab States in Cairo, and it was implemented by a very large team led by director Charbel Youssef, about two years to appear in this way.

This song was written by the late great poet Nizar Qabbani 40 years ago, and composed by the Lebanese composer Yahya Al-Hassan, while the orchestral music arrangement was supervised by Michel Fadel, and the oriental music arrangement was handled by Hassan Yahya Al-Moawad.

The Lebanese journalist Nishan expressed his admiration for the song with a tweet in which he wrote: “Is it possible for beautiful Beirut to emerge once again from the forbidden hands?”

For her part, journalist Rabia Al-Zayyat wrote: “For a long time, we have been waiting for a work that is worthy of Beirut and its wounds, and that rises to the level of the pains of this city and its people.”

And she added, “Al-Majida did it, and she sang I am not the world, one of the most beautiful words of Nizar Qabbani. Thank you, Majida El Roumi.”
