This Monday, July 31, a group of about 20 people were staying at Villa Alceo, Italy, a historic residence filled with works of art, when they broke a famous sculpture by Enrico Butti.
A German influencer with more than 1.5 million followers, Janis Danner, has been talked about… not necessarily in a good way. The Instagram star had rented Villa Alceo, in Viggiù, Italy, to spend a few days there with 17 people to celebrate his fiancée’s birthday.
In this house filled with historical paintings and sculptures, the young man allowed himself to take some liberties. Last July 31, he entered the fountain of the house and wanted to kiss a sculpture by Enrico Butti. Except that he dropped it and the structure was destroyed on impact with the ground.
“This is a tragedy”
The influencer was reported to the authorities, along with five of his friends, by officials of the historic residence for vandalism and an investigation was opened. The damage was assessed at more than 200,000 euros. Video taken by what appears to be security cameras shows the incident on YouTube.
“For us, this is a tragedy. Something like that never happened. These young people whom we have welcomed are vandals, with no respect for art and culture”, declared Bruno Golferini, the owner of the villa. “He told me that the statue was made of sand and that if I wanted, he would give me 200 euros”, reported the latter to the media La Stampa. Problem, it was a work of art.
“Witnessing this scene reminded me of historical episodes of the plundering of ancient cities, when barbarians devastated everything and threw down the statues of deities in a sign of contempt. This act of vandalism left me with the same feeling, also because I grew up in Villa Alceo and this statue has always had great emotional value. For me, it was the symbol of the house, its protector in a certain sense”, concluded the owner of the villa.
