KI Klaksvik puts the Faroe Islands on the map of European competitions
After eliminating Hungarian side Ferencváros in the first qualifying round of the Champions League, KI Klaksvik from the Faroe Islands have beaten the Swedish champions in the second. A historic victory that guarantees them, at least, the presence in the group stage of the Conference League.
KI Klaksvik from the Faroe Islands, belonging to a town of just 5,000 inhabitants, continues to make history in the Champions League qualifier. They have done so by beating Swedish Häcken on penalties after being 0-0 in the first leg and 3-3 in the second leg. Going to the next round, the Faroese assure the country that they will be in a group stage of European competition for the first time.
At least, they have already managed to be part of the Conference, the third tournament on the old continent. The next step will be to face the Norwegian Mold to keep alive the dream of playing in the Champions League. In case of losing, they will go to the Europa League qualifiers and, if they fall back there, they will be the team of the third competition.
Along the way they have left a historic European Cup like Ferencváros, who was endorsed with a 3-0 aggregate in the first round. An unprecedented milestone that puts a small country that has an eye on rubbing shoulders with the elite of the king of sports on the front page of the best football in the world.
