IT House reported on August 3 that recently, Musk installed a huge “X” sign on the roof of the X headquarters in San Francisco, which caused dissatisfaction and complaints from the surrounding residents. The sign, installed without permission, appeared “flaky” and had “annoying flashing lights”. On Monday, workers removed the sign.

The owner of the X headquarters building at 1355 Market Street will be fined for not having the relevant construction permits, the San Francisco Department of Building Inspection told Insider. The amount of the fine is unclear, and Insider reached out to representatives of Company X, Musk, and landlord SRI Nine Market Square LLC (a subsidiary of real estate investment firm Shorenstein) on Tuesday, but did not hear back.

Musk acquired Twitter last year for US$44 billion (IT home note: currently about 316.36 billion yuan) and renamed it X. He installed the “X” sign on the roof of his headquarters on Friday, prompting a violation notice from the city’s building inspection department. The department received 24 complaints about the sign over the weekend, including “concerns about its structural safety and lighting”.

This is not the first time Musk has had a dispute with the landlord. In January of this year, the landlord sued Musk and Company X, alleging that they owed millions of dollars in rent.
