On Sunday, August 6, 2023, things will get serious for the pros of the Kölner Haie, when coach Uwe Krupp (58) will ask them to go on the ice for the first joint session.
Before the official start of training, the KEC announced a number of squad updates. There are two departures to report: Striker Kevin Niedenz (20) will not play for the Haie in the new DEL season – he is moving to the DEL 2 with the Krefeld Penguins.
Kölner Haie: Niedenz and Willerscheid leave KEC
“For some players it is important to find individual solutions for their best possible development. For Kevin it is the best step in development if he plays permanently in Krefeld next season,” explains Matthias Baldys, Director of Hockey Operations at the KEC.
Niedenz had played ten games for the Haie in the DEL since the 2020/21 season, and in 2021/22 he was active in the Canadian junior league OHL.
There is another departure from the goalkeeper position: Leon Willerscheid (18) moves to the young eagles in Mannheim, where he will appear in the DNL.
Meanwhile, a new defender has joined the professional squad: Nick Aichinger (23). Aichinger was already captain of the Junghaie and now has a tryout contract. Born in Cologne, he has already gone through the youth of the KEC. In 2020 he then switched to the Hannover Indians in the Oberliga Nord. Last season, Aichinger made 33 DEL games for Fischtown Pinguins Bremerhaven. Now he wants to prove himself at the KEC.
