The Golden Voice: A Passionate Post-War Musical and Choral Show by Éric Bu

La voix d’or is Éric Bu’s new musical and choral show, which takes us into a passionate post-war love story.

The golden voice was one of our hopes for this OFF. We even told you about four good reasons that we had not to miss this new creation by Éric Buco-author of the excellent show at the two Molières, Do I look like Arletty?

It is therefore with a lot of impatience and excitement that we went to immerse ourselves in this family saga. Lots of expectations too, of course, and that’s always a risk. But if there’s one thing that was missing from this show, it’s disappointment. So after Jonah au grenier who came, at nightfall, to end our first day of OFF in music and gently, The golden voice probably fits as one of the best ways to start a festival day !

The theater of life!

D’or it’s not just the voice in this show signed Eric Bu and Thibaud Houdinière. But still, let’s start with that. Because it swings with elegance from the first seconds to immerse us in the heart of the matter. Guillaume is a theater producerhe is waiting for his friend Éric, playwright and director, delivers a part to him to produce. Except that it’s been a year since Eric wrote a line. Not even a Facebook status! But it is then that, during their discussion, Guillaume will deliver to him on a platter the theme of their next show…

In effect, his grandfather had a talent which he had sworn to do something about when he returned from the war. It was called “The Golden Voice”. And then there is the theater that immerses itself in the theater… Dizzying mise en abyme which we attend with great enthusiasm, and which will take us across borders, eras, in pursuit ofa passionate and tormented love story between two post-war singing stars.

When the past shines brightly

The construction of the room is awesome. Indeed, while Éric and Guillaume immerse themselves in the history of this Golden Voice to find and bring together the elements that will contribute to the construction of the story, we relive key moments of this man’s life, and therefore inevitably also that of Guillaume, his mother, his grandparents. So many characters that we discover on stage and who unfold their memories as the structure of the story unfolds.

More it’s not just flashbacks, No. The scenes from the past appear as if they were already being acted out by the future actors of the show that is being written! Scenes and actors with whom Éric and Guillaume interact freely, which brings a real freshness to the wholehumor, and a dynamic that leaves no respite.

Éric Bu, faithful to what we know of his talent and inventiveness In Do I look like Arletty? et Richard’s return from Richard 3 on the 9:24 a.m. train, staged with a certain malice and the complicity of lights by Cécile Trulleyer, changes of places, times and other transitions. We are in turn surprised, amused, charmed. Pieces of songs skilfully punctuate the story, accompanied on stage by Stéphane Isidore’s piano to whom we also owe some original creations a spectacle. In Paris, cute, Douce France, You make my head spin, La vie en rose, La bohème… So many tunes that you can’t help humming, of course.

A great gathering of artists

As for the game of the six actors who share this romantic storywe no longer knew where to pay attention so much they compete in talent. To start with Elodie LeadingOf course, that radiates grace in the role of the mother, and whose grain of voice when she sings grabs our hearts. Again. Wink or chance, we smiled as we briefly recognized the voice of her character from Arletty, which she played brilliantly in Do I look like Arletty?

Charlie Fargiallawhose beautiful presence we had already noted in crazy toadsby Mélody Mourey, is radiant. Sandrine Seubille, wonderfulcharmed us. Gregory Benchenafi is just and imposes in the role this cold and unloved grandfather. We laugh a lot with the playboy character of Éric, embodied with a lot of energy by and Marc Citti funny and endearing. He leads the dance of this epic alongside the captivating Benjamin Egnerwhich gives us one of the most touching moments during Guillaume’s heartbreaking speech of sincerity at the funeral of this grandfather who was for him an enigma.

Brief, we smile, we laugh, we are moved, we sing… we even hold back very strongly from dancing with them on Alexandria Alexandra ! and we come out of this voice of gold happy !

The voice of gold, ofEric Bu, Thibaud Houdiniere staging Eric Bu, Sandrine Seubille, Élodie Menant, Grégory Benchenafi, Marc Citti, Benjamin Egner, Charlie Fargialla and Stéphane Isidore (pianist), is performed at the Théâtre Actuel, from July 7 to 29at 11:45 a.m. (closed on Wednesdays).

Avis

9.5 Exhilarating!

Between melodrama and comedy, this twirling musical and choral show is inspired by a true story. Eric Bu’s perfectly orchestrated staging is once again a delight. This is, without a doubt, one of the great successes of this Festival.
