Decreasing Birth Rates in Egypt: A Focus on Reproductive Health Programs

The state continues its efforts to pay attention to reproductive health programs, as family planning programs aim to gradually reduce childbearing rates, and the Ministry of Health and Population revealed a decrease in the number of births from 2.7 million in 2014 to 2.183 million in 2022, and the total fertility rate decreased to (2.85) children per woman in 2021 compared to (3.5) children per woman in 2014, and the rate of using family planning methods increased to reach (66.4%) in 2021, compared to about (58.5%) in 2014.

In the annual “Health” report, the world population is expected to reach 8.5 billion in 2030 and 9.7 billion in 2050. More than half of the expected increase in the world’s population until 2050 is concentrated in 8 countries, including Egypt, which places heavy responsibilities on our shoulders. With the necessity of rapid and effective action to overcome the increasing population growth.

Dr. Hossam Abdel Ghaffar, spokesman for the Ministry of Health, confirmed that Egypt now ranks 14th in terms of population in the world, and the population in Egypt exceeds 105 million.
