New keeper
Nathan Bishop joins AFC Sunderland in the Championship from Manchester United. That was announced on Wednesday. The 23-year-old goalkeeper, who primarily played for the Red Devils U21s, signed a three-year contract with the Black Cats. It was agreed not to disclose the fee.
“You can see the direction the club is taking, using young players and giving them the opportunity to develop and compete in a big league. I find it so exciting that I want to earn the right to play for such a great team and club,” said the Englishman at his introduction.
Sporting director Kristjaan Speakman added: “Nathan is a player we have been following for some time and we have shown a lot of patience to complete this transfer. He is ambitious, positive and wants to improve and earn a place in the starting XI. We want a new challenge on the pitch every day and we believe Nathan can complement a really strong group of goalkeepers. We thank Man United for working together – it’s not always easy to come to an agreement at the right moment, but we’re glad Nathan is here before the season starts.”
