Kevin Danso: Lens keeps their star defender despite interest from Napoli – Contract extension and salary increase

Kevin Danso has long been linked with a Lens exit. Now the dice seem to have been cast, the ÖFB kicker remains.

The 24-year-old defender switched to the French Ligue 1 club in 2021 and made his breakthrough last season. Danso played 37 games for the Ligue 1 runners-up, mostly over the full distance. And mostly convincing. Danso was eventually voted Player of the Season by the Guardian, ahead of stars like Kylian Mbappe, Lionel Messi and Neymar.

That’s not the only reason why a European heavyweight became aware of the 24-year-old: SSC Napoli. Italy’s surprise champions are looking for a successor to defender Min-Jae Kim, who has moved to Bayern Munich, and has shown great interest in Danso.

Salary increase for Danso

But there will be no change, as “Foot Mercato” now reports. Because the 24-year-old is said to have decided to stay with the French runners-up. Also because the two clubs could not agree on a transfer fee.

Staying in Lens has definitely paid off for the 13-time red-white-red team player. Danso should therefore prematurely extend his contract, which runs until 2026. The central defender also gets a whopping salary increase for this. Danso’s salary is said to have tripled to EUR 120,000 per month.

Lens transferred 5.5 million euros for Danso to his ex-club Augsburg in 2021. The market value of the red-white-red team player is now estimated at 22 million euros.
