Opinion Hong Kong Newsletter:On August 2, Citigroup published a research report stating that Macau’s gambling revenue in July was 16.662 billion patacas, slightly higher than the bank’s and market expectations of 16 billion patacas, and equivalent to 68% of the level in July 2019, meaning 7 Average daily revenue for the last eight days of the month was about 595 million patacas, 14 percent higher than the previous week’s figure of about 521 million patacas.
The bank believes that despite the typhoon around mid-July, the average daily gambling revenue in Macau in July still hit the highest level in the past 42 months. In the past few weeks, the average occupancy rate of Macau hotels on weekends has reached about 90%. It is believed that Macau will continue to attract high-value tourists.
However, the bank pointed out that due to the summer vacation, August is usually a month with strong seasonality, so the bank conservatively expects that the gambling revenue in August will reach 17 billion patacas, which is equivalent to about 70% of the level in August 2019.
