Prime Minister Justin Trudeau’s wife, Sophie Gregoire Trudeau, is a former television reporter who has fought alongside the prime minister in three election campaigns to advocate for women’s rights.
“After many meaningful and difficult discussions, we have made the decision to separate,” the couple said in a statement. “As always, we remain a close-knit family with deep love and respect for each other and for all that we have and will continue to build.”
The prime minister’s office also issued a statement, revealing that the two had signed a legal separation agreement.
