Eight police officers, including the SI, who were accused in Tanur’s custodial death, have been suspended. Thrissur DIG has been suspended. Crime Branch DySP Reg M Kunniparamban is in charge of the investigation. Tanur SI Krishnalal, Manoj Kumar, Sreekumar, Ashish Stephen, Jinesh, Abhimanyu of Tanur police station, VIPin of Kalpakancheri station and Albin Augustine of Parappanangadi station were suspended pending investigation. Tamir Geoffrey’s post-mortem revealed thirteen injuries, including five bruises on his back and three on the back of his leg. It was alleged that this was due to police brutality. This is followed by suspension.
Two plastic casings containing a crystal-like substance were also found in his stomach. I suspect it is MDMA. The cause of death will be known only after the results of the chemical test. Investigation has been started in the case under the leadership of Crime Branch DySP Raj M Kunniparampan. Tanur police detained five people including Tamir with 18 grams of MDMA on Tuesday morning. The police say that he got confused while completing the arrest process.
