Brazilian President Calls for Abandonment of Dollar in International Trade

Brazilian President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva called for the abandonment of the dollar in international trade.

He also spoke in favor of creating alternatives to the US currency, including for settlements between the members of the BRICS association (Brazil, Russia, India, China and South Africa).

“Everyone knows that I am in favor of creating our own currency for trade between our countries. Why should we use the dollar to trade with Argentina or China when we can do it in our currencies? Why can’t countries that contain almost half of humanity discuss this among themselves? – the Brazilian leader noted in an interview with representatives of foreign media.

In his opinion, the list of participants in the BRICS association can be expanded already following the results of the next summit of the five, which will be held in Johannesburg at the end of this month.

“I consider it extremely important that the countries that meet the requirements of the BRICS become its members,” added Luis Inacio Lula da Silva.
