Mass Exodus of Israeli Doctors: Healthcare Crisis Looms Amid Judicial Amendments Protests

More than 3,000 doctors in a few days are organizing in emigration groups, in search of new and immediate opportunities to leave the occupation entity, after protests against the judicial amendments, which threatens the collapse of the health reality in the occupation entity.

The state of discontent among the doctors of the Israeli occupation has recently begun to escalate in an unprecedented manner, which began as a response to the judicial amendments, which ignited the Israeli street, and spread to several sectors, including the “army”, as well as the health sector.

The condition of the Israeli doctors reacted from discontent with the judicial procedures, to a feeling of “instability”, which prompted them to take urgent decisions to leave the entity.

The number of doctors wishing to leave has reached proportions that the occupation entity has not seen before, “in an important and dangerous indication of the state of anxiety and instability among the Israelis,” according to Israeli media, following the adoption of the “Law on Reducing the Argument of Reasonability” by the occupation Knesset.

The Israeli journalist, Nechma Dweck, says in a report he published a few days ago in the “Israel Hayom” newspaper, “The doctors’ pursuit of a foreign passport saddens me. The true meaning of seeking a foreign passport is that they do not believe that this entity, called the State of Israel, will remain.” and that they must find refuge for themselves.

“The real meaning is that they don’t believe that this thing, called Israeli society, will survive,” Dweck adds.

The matter did not depend on the “willingness” of Israeli doctors to emigrate only, but rather went beyond it to searching in various ways and means for emigration, or what some call it, “repositioning”, since “the term emigration in the occupation entity has consequences that frighten the authorities, and reflects terror on the inside.” According to the newspaper.

The health affairs correspondent of Haaretz newspaper, Ido Afrati, reported, in a report, about “Israelis working in the field of medicine abroad, stating that since the adoption of the law abolishing the reasonableness argument, they have been flooded with requests from their counterparts in Israel to immigrate.”

Professor Naftali Kaminsky, Director of the Department of Pulmonary and Intensive Care Medicine at Yale University in the United States, explained to Avrati that “requests come from young and old doctors alike in Israel, asking him to help him secure work for emigration, and some of them He tells him literally: I will work for free!

Since the Knesset approved the “law” last week, it has been reported from Israeli doctors and researchers working abroad that they have received, and are still receiving, requests from Israeli doctors who want to leave the entity.

Many of them would like to do this “immediately”, announcing their willingness to receive lower salaries, harsher conditions of employment, or even a decline in their status and responsibilities.

Overseas job search and instant transfer requests

Haaretz newspaper quoted Prof. Erez Nosk, a senior physician in the Department of Neurosurgery and Brain at University Hospital in New York, as saying: “I have never received requests of this kind, to search for a job and move immediately.”

Nosk stated that those who are addressing him are senior doctors, one of whom is a heart surgeon and the other two in the field of neurosurgery. “They said that they are interested in leaving Israel immediately, and one of them has a son who is supposed to be conscripted soon, but his family is not ready for him to serve in the army.”

For her part, the Israeli professor, Dorit Nitzan, who occupies the position of regional director of emergencies at the World Health Organization, says that in a few days after the cancellation of the “reasonableness argument law” she received 200 requests from Israeli doctors interested in working in the World Health Organization, in which she worked for 17 years, She recounts how she was unable to respond to the requests of such large numbers, so she decided to gather them in a meeting on “Zoom” to explain the process to them.

Nitzan confirms that despite explaining to them the difficulty of applying and the professional and personal tests, and even that their appointment will be in African countries, not Geneva or New York, the doctors “insist on their questions, and express their willingness to bear all that, in order to emigrate.”

3000 doctors within days in WhatsApp immigration groups

Nitzan adds that she knows two WhatsApp groups specialized in the migration of doctors, or as she put it, the relocation of doctors, and assumes that there are other groups that she does not know, and confirms that “one of the groups includes 1999 members, while the other includes 973.”

Other groups of physicians organize and meet for emigration to the United States, Portugal, New Zealand and Canada.

Amidst this intertwined and rapidly changing reality, the Israeli Ministry of Health will not be able to immediately assess the damage in this sector, since the doctors have not yet immigrated, but it expresses the current situation as “worrying,” as it may lead to “a dramatic change in the level of health services in Israel,” which may be “the beginning of a snowball, which will lead to more and more doctors leaving Israel,” as Haaretz’s health correspondent put it.

In the same context, the Israeli Channel 12 website reported that, “less than a week after the Knesset abolished the argument of reasonableness, and the number of doctors wishing to emigrate increased, hospitals and medical organizations in Gulf countries such as the UAE and Bahrain turned to Israeli doctors with attractive proposals, proposing to them a package.” wide offerings.
