Researchers from the University of San Diego found that strawberries have an amazing health benefit associated with lowering the risk of high blood pressure.
In the study, 35 people between the ages of 66 and 78 were given 26 grams of dried strawberry powder.
After 8 weeks, the researchers found that those who ate the strawberries had a 3.6 percent decrease in their systolic blood pressure.
Commenting on the findings, the study’s lead researcher, Shireen Houshmand, said:
Previously published research has shown some excellent benefits of strawberries for heart health, so our research is great to confirm some of these findings. The study shows that eating strawberries may enhance cognitive function and reduce cardiovascular risk factors such as high blood pressure. A simple dietary change, such as adding strawberries to the daily diet, may improve these outcomes in older adults.
Previous research has found that regular consumption of strawberries can also protect the brain from dementia by reducing inflammation.
