Respawn Entertainment Announces Star Wars Jedi: Survivor Port for PS4 and Xbox One – Latest News and Updates

Even if you’ve been writing news from the gaming world and the Star Wars galaxy for over 10 years, there can still be news that makes you say “what?” out loud and check your calendar for April Fools’ Day. This is exactly what happened following the revelation that studio Respawn Entertainment is preparing a port of this year’s action adventure game Star Wars Jedi: Survivor na PlayStation 4 a Xbox One.

The mildly surprising announcement of Cal Kestis’ latest Jedi gaming adventure coming to last-gen consoles took place during publisher Electronic Arts’ conference call with investors. According to EA management, the PS4 and Xbox One versions are in the early stages of developmentunfortunately that’s about all we know about the project at this point.

So we have no idea when they might appear on the market and if the game will be cut down in any way compared to the original for PC, PS5 and Xbox Series X|S. And when the editors of various foreign servers, among which belongs for example Kotaku, tried to find out more details through the official way, only received information that EA doesn’t want to comment further on the matter yet.

Star Wars Jedi: Survivor is without a doubt a hugely successful title both commercially and critically, so with that in mind, perhaps a PS4 and Xbox One port isn’t that surprising. But let’s not forget that Survivor is a very hardware-intensive game that suffered from significant performance issues upon release, across all three platforms. Although PC owners experienced the worst, the situation on consoles was not ideal for a long time either. On the other hand, today’s news from Respawn is noticeably better thanks to a number of larger and smaller patches.

However, Star Wars Jedi: Survivor still has a reputation as a technically demanding game that challenges even the latest hardware. Let’s also not forget that in the past, the developers from Respawn have made it clear more than once that they are striving for a true next-gen experience. And that’s why we’re surprised that they’re now seriously trying to get it to older consoles as well.

After the release at the end of April, however, it was possible to observe optimization on PC a paradox, when owners of older hardware could now and then enjoy better and more stable performance than those who have the most modern graphics cards humming in their cabinets. So there’s probably a chance that this year’s trip to the Star Wars galaxy will be playable on PlayStation 4 and Xbox One. Still, we’ll be very surprised if the fps indicators read more than 15fps when looking at the vast plains of the planet Koboh with the town of Rambler’s Reach in the middle.

However, if you’re still facing technical issues with Cal’s efforts to follow in the footsteps of his friends and the era of the Republic on PC, PS5 or Xbox Series X|S, we’ve got EA’s reassurance that more fixes and performance improvements to existing versions of the game are on the way and are still a priority for Respawn. We should know more about upcoming patches as they get closer to release. We also recently learned that the as yet unannounced third installment of the Star Wars Jedi series probably will use engine Unreal 5. We believe that if the current engine from Epic Games powered Star Wars Jedi: Survivor (Respawn stayed with one of the last versions of Unreal 4 during development), we probably wouldn’t be writing about the vision of the PS4 and Xbox One port right now.

CEO of EA Andrew Wilson however, he stated during a conference call with investors that Electronic Arts has yet to announce anything regarding the future of the Star Wars Jedi series. Considering the company’s great relationship with Lucasfilm and Disney, thanks to which we also have two parts of the Star Wars: Battlefront series, or the long-running mobile Star Wars: Galaxy of Heroesbut Wilson would like to see a sequel. “I would definitely like to see more of the Jedi series as time goes on. It’s just an exceptional game that tells an exceptional story.” added the head of EA.
