Supreme Court to Review Strategy of Ministry of Public Education for Free Textbooks

MEXICO CITY (apro).- The appeal to review the strategy of the Ministry of Public Education (SEP) to prepare free textbooks for the next school year reached the Supreme Court of Justice of the Nation (SCJN).

The Court received a petition requesting it to exercise its power of appeal to review the definitive suspension granted by the Third District Judge in Administrative Matters in Mexico City.

With this measure, the judge ordered to stop the printing or distribution of free textbooks unless the educational programs are fully reviewed, so the SEP had to inform him of the mechanisms implemented to prepare them.

Against this measure, the SEP processed an appeal for review pending resolution in the Tenth Collegiate Court in Administrative Matters in Mexico City, which is the one that was requested to be brought to the Court.

In the next few days, the SCJN must define whether or not to attract the matter; if so, it is possible that the amparo will take up to one more year to be resolved.

Process reported yesterday that the Third District Judge granted the SEP 24 more hours to report compliance with the definitive suspension that it granted, however, the Secretariat announced that until now it has not been formally notified of said term.

In the amparo, the SEP has delivered documentation in certified copies and on a USB device to the judge who also requested to keep their information confidential.
