Right at the start of The Orange Summer Hélène, raising her left hand, asks guest Jack van Gelder if he thinks she has beautiful hands. He then says that she does indeed have beautiful hands. ‘Piano hands’, he even calls them.
Then Hélène puts her right hand in the air, where a fingertip is missing. “A small piece is missing, as you can see. The little finger,” she says. “How did that happen? With hockey or something?” Jack then asks. Hélène, who has played hockey for many years, confirms this. “That has been knocked off, but I always manage to hide that well, except now.”
Hélène asks Jack all this because he has appointed Theo Maassen, the new presenter of Summer guests, has ‘the perfect presentation hands’. But what does he actually mean by that, the presenter would like to know.
“I watched last Sunday and certainly the beginning: I think it’s incredibly clever that he goes into an interview without paper and an earpiece,” says Jack. “What struck me is that he has very big hands.” Then Hélène says: “Yes, whoppers.”
