PARIS (Reuters) – Thieves carried out an armed robbery at a Piaget luxury Swiss watch store in central Paris on Tuesday, fleeing with jewelry worth between 10 and 15 million euros ($11 million to $16.5 million), the Paris prosecutor’s office said.
The robbery took place around lunchtime in the shop located on Rue de la Paix in the upscale Place Vendôme district, home to several jewellery, watches and luxury goods stores. The area has witnessed a series of armed robberies in the past years.
An investigation has been opened, and an informed source said that the police are searching for three suspects.
In May last year, thieves robbed a Chanel jewelry and watch store in the area and then fled using motorbikes.
Piaget is part of the Swiss luxury goods group Richemont.
