They claim that the singer forced one of them to touch a naked performer in the Bananenbar nightclub in Amsterdam. Lizzo also allegedly subjected the dancers to an “excruciating” audition after she falsely accused one of them of drinking on the job.
They also state in the indictment that Lizzo would have made comments about one of the female dancers who would have gained weight. In the end, this dancer was fired. Lizzo is known for her commitment to body positivity.
The indictment also accuses Shirlene Quigley, the captain of the singer’s dance team, of wanting to convert religious dancers. The captain is also said to have made snide remarks about dancers who had had sex before marriage.
The charges have been filed in Los Angeles District Court. Lizzo, Quigley and their managers have not yet responded to the allegations.
‘Nothing strange happened’
The staff of the Banana Bar remembers Lizzo and her crew’s visit at the end of February as “a very pleasant evening where nothing strange happened”. “There was not a word of disapproval,” says director Cor van Dijk. “And there was not a moment where our staff members felt that any of the guests were uncomfortable.”
Van Dijk explains that the erotic dancers and staff are trained for such signals. “Everyone knows exactly what to do if an unpleasant situation threatens or if someone seems uncomfortable,” he explains. “And that was not the case that evening. It was a very relaxed atmosphere.”
The visit took place after Lizzo’s performance at the Ziggo Dome in Amsterdam on February 23, 2023.
