Studio Tokyo Virtual Theory announced some time ago that it is working on a spiritual successor to the Patapon series. This rhythmic series saw a total of three parts between 2007 and 2011, which aimed at the then popular PSP portable console from Sony. The brand later also received a port for PlayStation 4.
Part of the original authors led by designer Hiroyuki Kotani and music composer Kemmei Adachi in the newly formed studio Tokyo Virtual Theory decided to reincarnate the concept of this brand in a new game called Ratatan. Instead of courting a publisher, the developers first decided to ask fans for money through crowdfunding. Campaign launched today on Kickstarter proves that this procedure has paid off. Authors requested $141,000 picked up in less than an hour.
Currently, the first stretch goal, which ensures the addition of online multiplayer, has even been overcome. Defeating other already revealed additional objectives in the form of bonus minigames and console versions it is only a matter of time. At the time of writing, the amount raised is close to half a million dollars. The release date is estimated for the first half of 2025.
