The prosecution, which is investigating the case of money envelopes at the Democratic Party convention, once again requested an arrest warrant for independent lawmakers Yoon Kwan-seok and Lee Seong-man.

In June, an arrest warrant was requested, but the motion for arrest was rejected by the National Assembly, but this time the parliamentary session was suspended, so the two lawmakers were reviewed by the court without a vote.

Reporter Jung Sang-bin covered the story.

The prosecution once again requested an arrest warrant for independent lawmakers Yoon Kwan-seok and Lee Seong-man.

It has been seven weeks since the first arrest warrant was issued as the National Assembly rejected the arrest motion.

Rep. Yoon is accused of distributing 20 envelopes of 3 million won each to lawmakers after asking camp officials to raise funds just before the 2021 National Convention.

The congressman’s warrant contained charges of providing 10 million won in cash for the head of the camp’s regional headquarters and receiving a 3 million won envelope.

The crime charges remain the same as the first arrest warrant, but what has changed is that it is not the National Assembly session.

Since the first arrest warrant was requested during the extraordinary session of the National Assembly in May, it had to go through a vote on the arrest motion in the National Assembly, and in the end, it did not cross the threshold of the National Assembly.

However, since the current National Assembly is not in session, the two lawmakers are immediately subject to arrest review by the court.

The prosecution is in the position that it has sufficiently strengthened the evidence by arresting and investigating former aides of former CEO Song Young-gil and securing access records to the National Assembly.

Both lawmakers immediately objected.

″Prosecutors themselves claim that they have “enough evidence,” but I don’t know what the hell I am going to destroy.″

Rep. Kwan-seok Yoon argued that ″The prosecution used the non-session of the National Assembly politically to request a warrant.″

Whether or not to arrest the two lawmakers will be decided after a court review on the 4th, at the earliest on Friday evening or at the latest on the weekend morning.
