Baldur’s Gate III: Delayed Xbox Series X/S Release Expected in 2024

The 1.0 release of Baldur’s Gate III has spread all over the store. The PC version debuts on Thursday, August 3, followed by a PS5 release in early September. As for the Xbox Series version, Larian has confirmed it’s in development, but it’s taking longer than expected due to difficulties getting split-screen to work on the platform. As for how long fans will have to wait for the Xbox Series X/S to debut, a new tweet (or thread I guess these days) on Twitt…X hints that a 2024 launch could be around the corner.

Michael Douse, Larian’s publishing director, said on X:

“We’ve said many times in the past that the problem is working with split screen on the Series S, which will take more time, but it’s a work in progress. It’s a huge technical hurdle, but we can’t be in the ecosystem without this feature. Publish the game.

“Far from being exclusive, we don’t have an exclusivity agreement preventing us from launching on Xbox. It’s a technical hurdle. We can’t remove the split-screen feature because we’re obliged to launch with feature parity, so keep trying to make it work.

“We’ve had quite a few engineers working really hard to accomplish something that no other RPG of this size has been able to: seamless in and out co-op for Series S. We hope to have an update before the end of the year.

This is the very interesting last part, becauseSay “we hope to have an update before the end of the year”suggesting the Xbox version won’t be ready until 2024.

When do you think Baldur’s Gate III will be coming to Xbox consoles?
