EMS Presents Free Open-Air Cinema in Schönebeck’s Kurpark: A Star Is Born

Schönebeck – With the current weather, only die-hards are particularly interested in open-air cinema. “If it rains today, the sun will shine on September 1st,” says Frank Sieweck. The spokesman for Energie Mittelsachsen GmbH (EMS) is optimistic that the weather will play along at the beginning of metrological autumn. At the beginning of July, many visitors came to the Kurpark to feast their way through the Culinary Night.

Then guests can expect a film screening as part of the EMS cult cinema in the Kurpark. “This year we chose ‘A Star Is Born’ with Lady Gaga and Bradley Cooper. Above all, the film grabs you emotionally, and it also contains great songs,” explained Sieweck at the presentation of the program.

Unlike in previous years, the energy supplier did not conduct a public vote on film selection this time, instead employees were able to choose from a list of films. The crew had a choice of six different films.

Ultimately, the Hollywood music film prevailed. In the flick, aging rock star Jackson Maine (Bradley Cooper) discovers and falls in love with talented singer Ally (Lady Gaga). EMS spokesman Frank Sieweck was particularly impressed by Lady Gaga’s performance. “Many people probably know her as a heavily made-up pop diva who appears in colorful outfits. In the film, however, she appears completely without make-up. You see a whole new side of her,” says Sieweck, who was allowed to see the film beforehand. He is optimistic that the event will again be well attended this year. Even when the weather was bad, many people from Schönebeck have regularly come to the cult cinema in recent years. “At the ‘Dance of the Vampires’, 60 guests endured the rain and cool temperatures. But we were mostly lucky with the weather,” says Sieweck.

The event has been held annually in the Kurpark since 2010. Solepark boss Sibylle Schulz is also happy about that. “We are glad that the EMS sets up an open-air cinema in our spa park every summer. There hasn’t been a cinema in Schönebeck for some time,” said Schulz at the presentation of the program. Despite the mixed summer so far, the open-air events in the Kurpark have been well received. “Both our Kurpark concerts and the Culinary Night or the Festival of Lights were very well attended,” reports the Solepark manager. Admission to this year’s cult cinema is free again. It begins on September 1st when it gets dark, probably around 8:30 p.m. “It will take place in any weather, we also have some rain capes ready,” informs EMS spokesman Sieweck. The ice cream parlor Venezia will provide the culinary accompaniment to the film. There will also be popcorn for the perfect cinema experience.
