Ukrainian Drone Attacks Damages Office Building in Moscow City: Latest News and Updates

MOSCOW – Mayor of Moscow, Sergey Sobyanin, on Tuesday (1/8/2023) morning local time said that the capital’s financial and business district Russia it was again the target of Ukrainian drone attacks. This attack follows similar attacks over the past weekend.

In a post on Telegram, Sobyan said one drone managed to penetrate air defenses and hit one of the tall buildings in Moscow City where some of Europe’s tallest skyscrapers are located.

“Several drones were shot down by air defense systems while trying to fly to Moscow. One hit the same tower in the City as the last time,” wrote the mayor of Moscow as quoted from RT.

He added that the facade of the building on the 21st floor of the building was damaged.

According to photos and video from the scene, the drone hit the 50-storey building in the ‘IQ Quarter’ complex, which contains the offices of several Russian government agencies, including the Ministry of Commerce, Economy and Telecommunications.

There were no immediate reports of fatalities or injuries, but according to the Mayor emergency services were working at the scene.

All flights to and from Vnukovo Airport in southwest Moscow have been suspended as a precaution.

The Russian Defense Ministry said in a statement that a total of three drones were involved in the attack. Two of them were destroyed in the air outside Moscow, while the third was destroyed by an electronic warfare system, veering off course and hitting a non-residential complex in Moscow City.
