Jakarta, CNBC Indonesia – The solar system has 8 planets in it. Apparently it took years to get to the last planet, Neptune.
NASA reported, it took at least 12 years from Earth to Neptune. This happened during a NASA mission called Voyager 2.
The mission lifted off from Earth on August 20, 1977. Voyager 2 only reached Neptune 12 years later.
On its way, Voyager 2 passed Jupiter in 1979 and two years later by Saturn. The craft landed on Uranus in 1986, eventually making its three-year journey to Neptune.
At that time Voyager 2 passed its nearest, namely the north pole of the planet Neptune on August 25, 1989. The plane traveled to Neptune with an average speed of 19 km per second.
About five hours later, Voyager 2 passed 40 thousand kilometers from Triton, which is Neptune’s largest moon, quoted from NASA’s official website, Tuesday (1/8/2023).
Meanwhile reports Space in 2012, stated that the distances of the planets from each other differ depending on their position. Specifically for Earth and Neptune, when they are on the same side of the Sun, they are 4.3 billion kilometers away, while when they are on the opposite side, they are 4.7 billion kilometers away.
Neptune is the last full-sized planet discovered. The planet was not found by binoculars, but by using a mathematical formula.
