Libreville, Tuesday 1is August 2023 (Infos Gabon) – The Prime Minister, Head of Government, Alain-Claude Bilie By Nze, hammered home this yesterday during an Interministerial Council.
The presidential, legislative and local elections will indeed take place on August 26, 2023 in Gabon as initially planned. During an Inter-Ministerial Council which he chaired yesterday, the Prime Minister, Head of Government brushed aside calls from the opposition and civil society for a postponement of this election and of a transition in Gabon.
“No postponement can be considered, let alone a transition that nothing justifies, because all the institutions are in place and operate in compliance with the Constitution and other laws in force”, launched Alain-Claude Bilie By Nze. He also made a point of emphasizing that these questions had been addressed last February during the Political Concertation between the majority and the opposition.
As a reminder, last Friday, through the voice of its president, Georges Bruno Ngoussi, the Civil Society Consortium for Electoral Transparency (COTED), close to the opposition, launched an appeal to this effect at the Gabonese Elections Center. “COTED urges the CGE to think Gabon first, by postponing the 2023 coupled elections to a later date, thus allowing the establishment of a transition”, he underlined. Without recognizing the divisions and the lack of preparation that undermine the Gabonese opposition.
