Second album by the Canadian Bella White, after her excellent debut Just like Leaving. She produces Jonathan Wilson, with whom she had already collaborated on a few singles. Among Other Things it also features the guitar of Buck Meek, from Big Thief; singer-songwriter Erin Rae, multi-instrumentalist Drew Erickson and Patrick M’Gonigle who regularly collaborates with White in his band. At twenty-two years old, White throws himself fully into bluegrass, giving it a fresh sound. Although, her songs came to her during the pandemic and she was forced to compose solo, without her usual band, which has moved her sound away from bluegrass a bit and has brought her closer to folk. Songs like the excellent “Rhododendron” are good proof of this. She less banjo and more pedal-steel, in fact, she only appears in one song. To highlight that “Marilyn”, a conversation that she heard between two men criticizing a woman who had just given birth to her and who forced her to write the song in a rage. A gem.
