Costa Rican Social Security Fund’s Successful Seasonal Influenza Vaccination Campaign

75% of the population has already been vaccinated against seasonal influenza, as confirmed by the Costa Rican Social Security Fund, for a total of one million doses.

In populations from six months to seven years, 151,000 doses have been presented, which represents 32% coverage.

Likewise, around 32,000 pregnant women (81%) and more than 425,000 adults over 58 years of age were vaccinated.

As of July 31, anyone over the age of six months will be able to go to the Fund’s medical centers to receive the seasonal influenza vaccine.

“The measure was taken due to the increase in the circulation of respiratory viruses at this time of year,” said Diana Paniagua Hidalgo, the doctor in charge of the Fund’s Epidemiological Surveillance.
