Following the suspension of the election to the presidency of the National Order of Doctors of Cameroon ONMC, the functioning of this institution regulating the profession of Doctor remains blocked since March 2023. The situation is all the more worrying that in hospitals where there is a crying shortage of doctors. However, the operation of grooming the electoral lists at the National Order of Doctors of Cameroon ONMC is experiencing tampering.

We remember that the January 2023 ONMC election was postponed indefinitely following complaints made by 1,500 doctors for irregularities against the hierarchy in particular, the Minister of Public Health who, in all likelihood, was driving for a candidate. Five of the seven candidates for the presidency of the order then seized the President of the Republic to denounce the attempt at a forced passage organized by the Minister of Health on December 29, 2022, his interference in the electoral process in violation of the texts in force in order to impose his “candidate” In reaction to these complaints, the Head of State withdrew the Minister of Public Health from this file to entrust it to the Prime Minister with instructions to strictly respect the texts , with, in particular, the grooming of the electoral lists
600 voters and a candidate not up to date with their contributions.
According to well-introduced sources, the operation of cleaning up the electoral list entrusted first to the treasurer then to the outgoing auditor has been completed for several weeks. This operation made it possible to groom this list of voters not up to date with their contribution, including more than 600 voters and 6 senior doctors, therefore the candidate regularly supported by the guardianship. Also, in accordance with article 87 of decree 5816 making enforceable the code of ethics and the internal regulations of the ONMC, these irregular voters are excluded from the electoral process to order.
Hostage of the Order.
An exclusion that seems to meet those who maneuver to “take the Order hostage by all means” In fact, the new healthy list, because stripped of any doctor not up to date with his contributions should have already been published, for the constitution of the various colleges of voters. In the meantime, there are more than 1,000 young doctors who cannot take the oath, and therefore cannot be registered with the Order, and therefore cannot practice. Nor can they continue their training both inside and outside the country. Worse still, Cameroon no longer has a valid interlocutor to respond to problems of ethics and deontology both internally and externally.
