Due to the planned defusing of a World War II bomb, the main station in Essen will probably have to be closed during the course of Monday evening. DB Regio announced this on Twitter. During the evacuation of the restricted area, disruptions to train traffic are to be expected. The city of Essen announced that the British five-hundredweight bomb had been found in the west quarter – near the railway line.
Because the detonator was deformed, the dud had to be defused on Monday. All buildings within 300 meters of the bomb site would be evacuated. A support center for affected residents will not be set up – Ruhrbahn buses are available, according to the city.
