It’s been more than six years since Nintendo cleverly took advantage of a niche in the handheld game console market and gave a whole new dimension to the earlier trend set by Sony’s PSP. Nintendo Switch it is still popular among gamers today, however, the older hardware already hampers the console’s potential a bit. Fortunately, we shouldn’t have to wait so long for the next generation.
For some time now, it has been discussed that the Nintendo Switch 2, as the next-generation handheld could be called, will arrive next year. Now another source supports this claim, namely the portal VGC. According to his sources, the expected debut is to take place in sometime in the second half of 2024.
In theory, the successor to the current Switch could arrive on the market earlier, but Apparently, Nintendo doesn’t want there to be a supply problem like the Xbox Series X/S and PlayStation 5 used to do.
As for the hardware, the new Switch should get an LCD panel. Unfortunately, Nintendo wants to save money on the display, so we won’t get as good colors and really dark blacks as OLED technology provides.
The money that will not be inserted into the screen, however, should go to storage, which many players will undoubtedly appreciate. The current Nintendo Switch works with a maximum capacity of 32 GB, which can be a potential limitation for the development of more complex game titles. According to VGC sources, the new generation also has a popular handheld receive physical games through the cartridge slot.
According to the VGC report, already key partner studios received development kits for the new Switch. Unfortunately, the question regarding the games’ backward compatibility remains unanswered, so we’ll have to wait for more details.
