After leading the believers to recite the Angelus in the Vatican on Sunday, July 30, Pope Francis said, “Let us not forget that Lebanon is also a message.” He followed with concern the complex crisis the country was going through, wishing Lebanon “a solution that is commensurate with the history and values of its people.” The Pope also prayed for the hundreds of victims of the bombing, their families, and those who are still “in search of truth and justice.”
The commemoration organized by the families of the victims will be held on Friday, August 4. The families have condemned the obstruction and suspension of the investigation of the bombing since February this year. The Beirut port bombing in 2020 killed at least 220 people, injured more than 6,500, and left 300,000 homeless.
