Chikungunya Outbreak in Tangerang Regency: Beware of Aedes Albopictus Mosquito Virus

TANGERANGNEWS.com-With the change in weather from the rainy season to the dry season, residents of Tangerang Regency are advised to be wary of chikungunya disease due to infection with the Aedes Albopictus mosquito virus.

This is because the Tangerang District Health Office (Dinkes) has found several cases of this disease in their area.

“Because now it’s starting to be prone to contracting chikungunya and dengue,” said the Head of the Tangerang District Health Office, dr. Muchlis, Monday, 31 July 2023.

Muchlis asked the public to be able to maintain environmental cleanliness, starting from cleaning the house, yard and not littering.

Apart from that, he urges the public to continue to care about environmental hygiene and to intensify the Mosquito Nest Eradication (PSN) movement to prevent chikungunya disease.

“The symptoms of chikungunya are similar to those of DHF, such as fever, dizziness, joint pain, and decreased platelets. However, bleeding does not occur like symptoms of DHF,” he said.

Meanwhile, regarding the number of case data, the Tangerang District Health Office has not been able to provide details, because it is still carrying out the data collection process.

“There has not been an increase in reported cases of chikungunya. It is likely the same as the DHF cases as in the previous year,” said dr. Muchlis.

He also added that chikungunya is a disease that is most prone to occur when the weather changes, so people must anticipate as early as possible.
