Manchester United coach Erik ten Hag is not pleased with his team’s play during the exhibition defeat against Borussia Dortmund. The Dutchman is especially critical of the attitude of his players in the last half hour.
United lost 3-2 at Allegiant Stadium in Las Vegas on Sunday. Donyell Malen scored twice for Dortmund just before half-time, while Donny van de Beek delivered two assists for Ten Hag’s team. Substitute Youssoufa Moukoko made the decisive goal twenty minutes before the end.
“The match had two faces,” says Ten Hag on the site from United. “In the first hour we played nice football. It was nice to watch and I wanted to say that to the team during halftime. But suddenly they give away two goals. Those were gifts.”
After an hour of play, Ten Hag brought in eight new players: Lisandro Martínez, Jonny Evans, Luke Shaw, Aaron Wan-Bissaka, Casemiro, Bruno Fernandes, Mason Mount and Marcus Rashford. The coach saw that United’s game deteriorated after that.
“I was already annoyed by the mistakes in the first half, but the last half hour was really bad. The players did not keep to the agreements and did not put any pressure at all. There were eleven individuals on the field.”
In two minutes Dortmund turned it around! 💥

Ten Hag: ‘There are no excuses for this’
Ten Hag saw his players go wrong with every goal. “You have to take your responsibility, but that didn’t happen with the 3-2 either. This should not happen. It is unforgivable, even in a friendly match.”
“There are no excuses for this. We have to perform, in all circumstances. You have to be relentless and win games, because we are Manchester United. The fans always expect us to win.”
United will play exhibition games with RC Lens (August 5) and Athletic Club (August 6) before the club starts the Premier League. The home game against Wolverhampton Wanderers is scheduled for August 14.
