07/30/2023 at 2:00 p.m. by Sara Petzold – Assassin’s Creed: Mirage promises a return to the roots of Ubisoft’s game series – obviously also in terms of scope. The playing time of the remake will probably be much shorter than you might have guessed.
If fans and press had one gripe about the latest installments in the Assassin’s Creed series, namely Odyssey and Valhalla, it was the size. After all, players sometimes needed more than 100 hours to fully complete the titles. The problem: Despite the large amount of content, many fans did not find it profound or meaningful enough to make the huge investment of time worthwhile. But with Assassin’s Creed: Mirage, Ubisoft is now apparently taking a different direction.
Back to the roots? Playtime is a downgrade from Valhalla and Odyssey
Because in an interview with Youtuber Julien Chieze, lead producer Fabian Salomon revealed that average players will need between 20 and 24 hours to complete the story of Mirage. According to Salomon, it will take around 25 to 30 hours to fully play through the game. That would be a significant downgrade compared to Odyssey and Valhalla.
The fact that Mirage will apparently be much more compact than previous offshoots of the series also takes into account the fact that it is a remake of the very first Assassin’s Creed. The latter still offered significantly fewer open-world activities and was a far cry from what later became known as the Ubisoft formula. Perhaps that’s why many fans have such high hopes for Assassin’s Creed: Mirage, which promises a return to the roots of the series.
Whether the developers at Ubisoft Bordeaux can keep this promise will be seen in a few months. Assassin’s Creed: Mirage is scheduled to be released on October 15, 2023 for PC, Playstation 4, Playstation 5, Xbox One and Xbox Series X/S. By then at the latest, fans will know if the remaster was worth the wait.
