Kanye West’s Twitter Reinstatement by Social Network X: Latest News and Implications

Social network Twitter, renamed X, has reinstated American rapper and designer Kanye West about eight months after his account was suspended, The Wall Street Journal reported on Saturday.

Last fall, Kanye West posted an image of a swastika intertwined with a Star of David, and mogul Elon Musk suspended the artist from the platform he had purchased a few weeks earlier.

The Tesla boss then called Kanye West’s message “incitement to violence”.

X’s press service did not immediately respond to a request from AFP regarding Kanye West’s account. By the end of the evening, the rapper had yet to post anything new.

Kanye West, now known as Ye, assured the platform that he would not use his account to share anti-Semitic content or use harmful language, according to the Journal.

In 2022, the slippages of the star – in particular pinned down for remarks of an anti-Semitic nature – cost him dearly in terms of commercial contracts.

Adidas was forced in October to end its juicy collaboration with the American rapper, with whom the three-stripe brand produced the successful Yeezy sneakers.

In May, the German company said that the end of its very successful collaboration with Kanye West had led to a drop in sales of around 400 million euros in the first quarter of the year.

Gap and Balenciaga have also cut ties with the artist.

Since Elon Musk bought Twitter for $44 billion last October, he has laid off thousands of employees and cut content moderation.

In December, he restored former President Donald Trump’s Twitter account, but the latter has still not returned to the platform.
