The Tbilisi court sent to prison the defendants in the case of the murder of a military man committed in 2008.
According to the investigation, 15 years ago, when the rule of the “United National Movement” in Georgia Mikhail Saakashvilithe head of the Adjarian department of the Department of Constitutional Security suspected Roina Shavadze, a participant in the peacekeeping mission in Iraq and Georgia’s war against South Ossetia in 2008, in cooperation with foreign intelligence services. He was detained in a Batumi cafe, publicly beaten and called a traitor. Then, under the leadership of the head of the main department of special forces, the security forces took Shavadze away in a car and shot him not far from Kobuleti. Shavadze’s body had 40 gunshot wounds and cigarette burns.
The department drew up fake reports that drugs were found on the suspect, he escaped from the car during the transfer and shot at the special forces. On the spot, they created an environment that confirmed this version.
The prosecutor’s office began criminal prosecution against 10 people, eight of them were detained, two were put on the wanted list. The basis for the start of a criminal case 15 years later was the decision of the Strasbourg Court, which ruled that Article 2 of the European Convention – “Right to life” had been violated.
One of the leaders of the “Nationals” David Darchiashvili justified the murder of Shavadze. According to Darchiashvili, the military leaked information about Georgian positions. The Interior Ministry, however, found no evidence of this.
The opposition United National Movement should never return to power, the leader of the Citizens party said in response Aleko Elisashvili.
“National movement” will not fix anything. They are maniacs, and under no circumstances should these maniacs return to power. The National Movement must remain where it is. If Shavadze was a traitor, he should have been arrested and tried,” Elisashvili stressed.
The justifications of the “national” outraged other Georgian politicians as well. Member of the parliamentary majority Irakli Kadaghishvili noted that “they did not repent of the collective crime committed against the Georgian people.”
“On the contrary, they consider themselves the successors and heirs of these crimes. The National Movement has not changed,” said the MP.
“If it is true that the state executed a person without trial or investigation for treason, then this is one of the biggest shameful stains of the National Movement,” said the leader of the opposition Girchi party. His Highness.
