On Saturday, July 29, a musically bright evening at the Liepāja concert garden “Pūt, vējini!” enchanted by the charismatic and energetic Georgian ethno-jazz singer Nino Katamadze with the band “Insight”, enthralling the audience both with immeasurable vocal abilities and original songs filled with true feelings and thrilling.
The visitors of the concert – both those who have been following the musician for many years and those who enjoyed it for the first time – had the opportunity to experience Nino Katamadze’s so-called “art jazz”, which combines jazz, blues, rock music, pop music, funk and Georgian folk music. In this music, not only different genres of music are combined, but a close connection is made with the philosophical aspects of human life experience.
With his bright, authentic, sincere and sincere performance manner, Nino Katamadze is able to overcome any language barrier. The concert in Georgian featured popular hits as well as surprising and fiery improvisations, but the singer revealed the meaning of the songs between the lines while singing with emotion, thrilling the audience.
On stage, Nino played music together with his long-standing group “Insight”, which not only accompanied the singer’s voice, but appeared in the role of bright soloists. The group consists of guitarist Goha Kacheishvili, bassist Ucha Gugunava and drummer Alessander Dzaparidze. Saxophonist Giorgi Berishvili and pianist Papuna Sharikadze joined the group to create stronger jazz impulses.
In addition to the music, the singer made every moment special for the audience by stepping off the stage several times into the audience. Nino walked around each audience with a song, inviting everyone to sing along and allow for a positive exchange of energy, to feel empathy, compassion and joy. It is this exchange that is her main motivation. As she has previously stated in interviews: “I have found myself in music, because it is through it that I can give a small piece of myself to my beloved audience”.
Nino Katamadze was born in Adjara, a southern province of Georgia. The singer has developed her natural talent in the Vocal Department of the Batumi Music Institute and in other diverse music projects.
Together with the group “Insight”, Katamadze has been playing music for 24 years, giving concerts all over the world. Six albums were released during this collaboration, which are as colorful and versatile as the singer’s performances: “Black” (2006), “White” (2006), “Blue” (2008), “Red” (2010), “Green” ( 2011) and “Yellow” (2016).
Katamadze has also implemented projects with mixed and men’s choirs, symphony orchestras and long-time stage partner, pianist and composer Nikolozas Rachveli. For her creative activity, she has received awards such as “Best Vocalist of the Year”, “Best Author-Performer”, an award for outstanding contribution to the development of Georgian music, etc. In 2022, the singer founded a charity fund for refugees of the Ukrainian war to provide support for starting a new life in Georgia.
The concert “Georgian jazz diva Nino Katamadze & “Insight”” was organized by SIA “Lielais Dzintars” with the support of Liepaja municipality and the European Regional Development Fund.
