World Champion Jan Ross Sets Record for Urban Rope-Walking Between Katara Towers in Lusail City, Qatar

World rope-walking champion Jan Ross set a record, after walking more than 150 meters on a rope no more than 2.5 centimeters wide between the Katara Towers in Lusail City, Qatar.

As the sun rose over the city of Lusail today, Sunday, Estonian champion Jan Ross was able to pass the highest urban crossing to date.

The “glittering rope” connected the “Raffles Doha” and “Fairmont Doha” hotels, which take the form of two swastikas in Lusail City.

The distance between the two Katara towers, which Ross walked on the “glittering rope”, at a height of more than 185 meters, is the longest within one building in the world.

“I wanted to cross the distance between the two towers from the first moment I saw the building,” Ross said.

He added, “As an athlete, I am always looking to achieve excellence and defy all odds, and in this case I had to react to heat and wind conditions as well, and immediately while I was on the tightrope, and the warm LED lights and their extra weight also changed the way the rope interacted with me and with me.” My body weight, so it was more like skating on a big, heavy log rather than a light skateboard.”

Ross is an Estonian athlete and 3-time world champion in the sport of hanging ropes.

Crossing the longest tightrope within a single building is one of Qatar’s major global events expected in 2023, including the Qatar MotoGP Tour, the Asian Football Cup, the Formula 1 Qatar Grand Prix, and the Geneva International Motor Show.
