Moscow announced, on Sunday, that its forces had thwarted an attempted Ukrainian attack by 25 drones on the occupied Crimea, according to AFP.
The Russian Defense Ministry said in a statement: “The air defenses destroyed 16 Ukrainian drones.” He added that “9 other Ukrainian marches were neutralized by means of electronic warfare and crashed in the Black Sea,” noting that the attack did not result in any casualties.
Kiev, which has been waging a counterattack since early June to recover the territories occupied by Moscow, confirms its intention to recover Crimea, which Russia annexed in 2014.
However, the Ukrainian Ministry of Defense has not officially announced this attack.
Attacks on Crimea have increased in recent weeks, without Kiev claiming responsibility for most of them.
This comes the day after the Russian authorities announced, earlier, Sunday, a night attack carried out by “Ukrainian drones” on Moscow, confirming that they thwarted it without causing any injuries. The capital’s international airport was briefly closed.
The mayor of the Russian capital, Sergei Sobyanin, said on the Telegram application that “Ukrainian drones launched an attack tonight.” He added, “The facades of two towers containing offices in the city were slightly damaged. There were no casualties or injuries.”
The Russian “Tass” news agency quoted “navigation sources” as saying that Vnukovo International Airport in southwest Moscow was briefly closed to air traffic early Sunday, before flights resumed later.
Attacks rarely occur on Moscow and its environs, located about 500 km from the Ukrainian border, since the start of the Russian invasion in February of 2022, until, in 2023, the air raids launched by marches began.
