Manuela Vanegas’ goal in the 97th minute gave Colombia a historic victory in the Women’s Football World Cup. Colombia fell to Germany, unbeaten in the group stage since 1995 (2–1). Colombia were not ready to take comfort in the draw. They fought till the last moment. Finally, Vanegas scored the winning goal for Colombia in injury time. In the final match, Colombia’s opponent is Morocco. A point is enough for the Latin Americans to secure the pre-quarters. Korea is the opponent of Germany, who is second with three points. Ibtisam Jaraidi scored Morocco’s winning goal against Korea.
Tears for New Zealand
The hosts New Zealand failed to see the pre-quarters of the Women’s Football World Cup despite holding strong Switzerland without scoring a goal. New Zealand were eliminated in the group stage with a draw.
Switzerland and Norway reached the pre-quarters from Group A. Norway, who did not win in the first two games, advanced by defeating the Philippines by six goals. New Zealand and Norway had four points each in the group. However, Norway entered with a better goal difference.
